Ammex Gloves

No matter what you do for a living, there are some things you wouldn't touch without gloves; even at home, whether it's leftovers from Christmas that need to leave the fridge, or the grease and oil from car maintenance. Anchortex is proud to carry the full line of AMMEX Gloves - for the right protection at the right price. Here are six common chemicals you shouldn't touch - at least, Not Without Gloves:

1) Wood Stains. Wood stains often warn on the label that they should be handled with caution, and that appropriate barrier methods such as gloves be worn while using them. There are many common chemicals in wood stains, such as latex, ethyl alcohol, sodium hydroxide, and ethylene glycol, that are considered hazardous to touch with bare skin.

2) Pesticides. It stands to reason that anything that poisons insects might also be harmful to humans that touch them, and toxic chemicals such as paradichlorobenzene call for industrial grade nitrile gloves in particular as latex and vinyl gloves are not resistant to them. The instructions for safe use will specify if a particular barrier material is recommended.

3) Specialty Chemicals. Industrial chemicals used in the manufacture or production of many products, including inks, solvents, lubricants, detergents, and perfumes, are frequently toxic and must be handled with care, requiring disposable gloves and other personal protective equipment to handle safely.

4) Perchloroethylene. This chemical is used as a degreaser and solvent in dry cleaners, metal degreasing, rubber coating, and chemical production, and is a major irritant if handled without protection or inhaled. Respiratory protection and disposable gloves helps minimize exposure that can cause long-term health effects.

5) Lacquer and Paint Thinners. These chemicals are harsh solvents that cause multiple health risks, especially if used frequently as part of daily work routine such as in the automotive, construction, maritime and retail industry. Workers who handle these solvents without protection can suffer from skin irritation and numbness in small amounts, while long-term effects can include liver disease and increased cancer risk.

6) Beauty Chemicals. The beauty industry has many products - such as nail polish, nail polish remover, bonding glue, hair dye, and hair spray - that contain chemicals that are dangerous to handle safely for long periods of time. Depending on the chemical, you may need to choose particular gloves that can safely provide barrier protection against the specific chemicals used in the product for the time period in which you intend to be working with them, so read any warnings carefully.
